The Forbidden Kingdom

Click now for JiffNotes

If you have any love at all for kung fu movies, go see The Forbidden Kingdom. Accept that the opening sequence is not going to dictate the feel of the entire film, realize you could be watching the most brilliant reworking of The Karate Kid ever, revel in the super-nifty opening title sequence, ignore some dialogue and plot holes that could use help, then settle in for an enormously entertaining fish-out-of-water story. Tell yourself that the restaurant scene with Jackie Chan would have been THE most fun thing to co-star in, ever. Marvel that Jet Li can produce that much facial expression and animation.

Then.

Then...!

Watch Jackie Chan and Jet Li fight each other.

Seriously, I want to buy the DVD right now so I can watch all the choreography again. Yuen Woo-Ping, who did the fight choreography for The Matrix, did an awesome job, and clearly enjoyed working with fighters who...um...actually had skill to begin with.

This is the first movie in a long time where I remember leaving the theater and saying, "Now that was worth ten bucks!" (Shudder...ten bucks...so wrong....)

Only downside: No JC injury montage during the credits.

I've seen previews for this, and it looks like it will be fun. I'll definitely have to go and see it based on your recommendation!

Keep fingers crossed that they add the out-takes on the DVD. Cant have a JC movie without them!
